Responsibilities of the Operations Manager
Responsible for leading a cross-functional plant staff and directing all activities relating to the manufacturing operations. The Operations Manager will inspire staff to achieve results in alignment with company and business strategy as well as operational objectives focused on safety, health and environment, quality, productivity, inventory, people development, and employee engagement.
In addition:
• Drive and develop the culture of safety first
• Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations throughout the plant
• Ensure all equipment is operating in a manner that follows all environmental requirements
• Target and eliminate environmental nonconformance
• Plans, directs, and supports production activities
• Establish production priorities and schedules
• Eliminates operating inefficiencies and improves product quality
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities of operations personnel in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
• Maintain time and production records
• Estimate, requisition, and inspect materials
• Confer with supervisors to coordinate activities of individual functions
• Responsible for meeting quality stands, OTIF requirements, and addressing any customer or production issues
• Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to meet and/or exceed KPI’s
• Manage resources to maximize returns and drive employee development, productivity, and asset utilization
• Ensure compliance to budget and production schedules, monitor production output and quality data, and oversee compiling reports for management review
• Assist Materials Manager to determine lowest cost scrap models
• Assist Maintenance Department regarding any equipment repairs or installation to minimize the cost of down time
• Ensure raw material inventory accuracy and integrity through maintaining established cycle counts and turnaround times
Requirements for the Operations Manager
• Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in business, operations management, engineering, OR equivalent relevant experience
• Minimum five years’ experience in a manufacturing operations role with three years managerial experience, preferably in secondary aluminum production
• Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement tools preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to plan and organize effectively and efficiently
• Results and detail orientated
