Responsibilities of the Budget Officer
• Advise the Dean on budget related matters and makes recommendations
• Analyze trends, evaluate program financial status, and recommends changes
• Assess personnel needs
• Assist with the faculty recruitment process
• Assure all relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements are met
• Collect, aggregate, and prepare financial and personnel data for compliance with the State and various external agencies
• Coordinates yearly department budget requests
• Create and manage process to hire and track undergraduate student employees
• Develop and manage plans and expenditure of proceeds from various gifts, grants and other external funds
• Assure compliance with donor intent
• Develop enrollment and other revenue modeling tools that facilitate planning, profit analysis, and budget development processes
• Develop short and long-range financial plans and projections, evaluate alternative scenarios and recommends/implements actions
• Evaluates and approves purchase requests up to $10K
• Generates and approve EPAF’s.
• Interpret, communicate, and implement new and existing fiscal policies
• Manage faculty compensation processes for all faculty including, regular, chair, overload, and adjunct contracts
• Manage processes related to faculty and staff hiring, on-boarding, and appropriate training
• Plan, forecast, and develop budget
• Prepare and compile complex reports and records for distribution to leadership, faculty, and staff
• Prepare and distribute adjunct faculty contracts
Compensation for the Budget Officer
This position offers a wage of $26.93 per hour. The schedule is M-F from 8am to 5pm. There are full benefits available upon hire.
Requirements of the Budget Officer
• Ability to identify issues, compare data, investigate, and resolve discrepancies
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities with frequent interruptions
• Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of confidently and discretion
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Microsoft Excel skills to include the ability to create spreadsheets (e.g., formulas such as V-lookup, graphs, pivot tables)
• Microsoft Word skills to include the ability to create reports, containing graphs and other intermediate functions (e.g., perform mail merge, insert table of contents)
• Minimum of three years’ experience in financial management, oversight, and monitoring complex budgets and contracts
• Self-motivated to excel with excellent analytical skills and desire to meet deadlines
Even better if you have:
• Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for personnel and budget management
• Experience with Travel and Invoice Management software system
• Work experience in Higher Education environment
